Texas is known for being the most predominantly conservative state in the Union. A beacon of Republican principles that many wish the entire United States would follow.
What many don’t know is that there are Texas Republicans who are actively compromising on conservative principles and selling out Texas to the radical left.
State Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) said he would support raising the age to purchase a firearm to 21, which is a clear violation of Texans’ Second Amendment rights. Nichols also said he would vote to expand abortion access in Texas by allowing exceptions in cases of rape or incest.
“If I get a chance to vote for an exception to rape, I will vote yes” Nichols stated at The Texas Tribune Festival.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the Texas House Dade Phelan (R-Beaumont), selected Democrats to chair 8 committees in the Texas House for the 88th legislative session, and 7 of these 8 Democrats voted against SB 8 (The Texas Heartbeat Bill) in the 87th legislative session.
The same goes for HB 1927 (Constitutional Carry) where every Democrat appointed by Phelan, with the exception of Rep. Tracy King (D-Uvalde), chairman of the Natural Resources Committee, voted against expanding Texans’ Second Amendment rights.
If appointing Democrats to positions of power isn’t bad enough, House Speaker Phelan has bought many Liberal Republicans in the Texas House, via personal donations to their campaigns.
Between February 2nd and March 15th, 2022, Speaker Phelan made Over $80,000 in donations to Reggie Smith (R-Sherman), Chairman of the Elections Committee. Smith was responsible for allowing multiple election integrity bills to die in his committee, including SB 1600 which would require an individual to submit proof of citizenship to verify voting eligibility in Texas.
Speaker Phlean and the Liberal Republicans in the Texas House are the blockade to conservative legislation being passed. Clearly, Phelan and the rest of the Liberal Republican establishment are not the conservative champions we need to take on the challenges Texas is facing.
